MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Laquers | Review & Swatches

MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Laquers, tranquility, aflush, matte, lipstain

Ever since my first swish of Ruby Woo I have been enamoured by a good matte lip. Any product which claims to give you that gloss free finish immediately gets my attention. The MUA Luxe Lip Laquers came on my radar after I'd seen them cited as a good dupe for Lime Crime's iconic Velvetines. Starting with the packaging, the frosted finish imitates LC's but is finished with MUA Luxe branding which personally I like a bit more than standard MUA. They come with a box which I find a bit overpackaged but hey that's just me.

They really have a great selection of shades, there were several I'd have liked to try but I settled with 'Aflush' - a barbie pink and 'Tranquility' - a browny nude, because I didn't have anything like them. Due to the simple soft applicator they should be fairly easy to apply but because they're very thin, they can be tricky around the edges - you'd definitely need a mirror. You will see how I struggled on the close ups. They take a minute or so to properly dry into a matte finish that I was pretty happy with.

The colour is solid and pigmented so no complaints there, but even when its dry it is very sticky. This makes it very uncomfortable to wear, and you can forget having a cheeky cuppa whilst you have this on. After not long at all it starts to flake off and feels like your lips are peeling (so weird). When I tried to perform a recovery with a top up it was all over and just went blotchy. Then finally when I gave up and tried to take it off, it was an absolute mission.

For £3 I don't feel like I have lost a lot from trying these but I would advise splashing the extra £5 and going to the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets - hopefully they will improve their shade range soon. If you are disciplined enough to leave your lips alone once their done you might get on better with these than I did, I might still get them out for a night out but sadly I don't think they're the holy grail dupe I was looking for which I'm gutted about because there are so many good shades.

Have you tried MUA Lip Laquers? I'd be interested to know if anyone else struggled with them.

Thanks for reading.
