Real Techniques Nic's Picks brush set | Beauty

Real Techniques, Nic's Picks set, review, beauty,Real Techniques, Nic's Picks set, review, beauty,

A few months ago I spotted these beauties on the shelves of Boots and Superdrug, with it being Christmas and everything I resisted. More recently they were on Amazon's lightning deals and thought it was about time they joined my collection.

Now if beauty blogs are your thing then you will be no stranger to these two brands. Whilst they aren't commonly ones my pennies stretch two, last month when perusing Manchester Selfridge's AMAZING beauty hall and feeling a little giddy after a run in with Dougie & Ellie Goulding I took the plunge and picked up a couple of things I'd been lusting after for a while.

Summer beach party style with River Island & Pacha

(all River Island)

I'm definitely getting holiday fever at the moment - with the sun poking its head through and 5 weeks to go until my summer adventure the excitement is definitely taking over. River Island's Pacha collection is designed with Ibiza in mind and although I'm not heading to the white isle I feel like in Miami, Vegas and LA I can still channel that from the beach to the bar vibe.

Sleek Faceform Contouring and Blush Palette | Review

Sleek. face form. blush, contour, highlight, palette, rose gold, shade, light, boots, drugstore, review,Sleek. face form. blush, contour, highlight, palette, rose gold, shade, light, boots, drugstore, review,

Sleek were the first drugstore brand I noticed really bringing something brilliant to the world of contouring. Once a thing of Kimmy K - their contour palette brought cheek bones to the every day girl for the bargainous price of under a tenner. After getting on well with their contour kit, I was excited to discover a newer Sleek Makeup offering in the shape of this Face Form Palette - it kind of reminded me of Urban Decay's Naked Flushed but for a much more friendly price tag.

beauty, cleanse and polish, dry skin, gift set, high end, john lewis, liz earle, review, skincare, test,

When my first skincare basics came to an end I knew I wanted to up my game. Liz Earle - particularly their cleanse and polish had been on my radar for a while. I love that they're a brand fairly local to me, and the all natural ingredients really appeal to me.

Tips for finding a graduate job in Marketing

Career, advice, marketing, graduate, help, job, business cards, mobile phone

I'm only a couple of years into my career so I still remember leaving uni and being completely overwhelmed at the prospect of what to do next. People always told me they thought I'd suit a job in PR, but that along with Marketing wasn't something I knew anything about about. During my course I did a module on it and knew from that point it was something I'd love to do full time but when I left I realised - so did a lot of other people. There are a lot of opportunities around but it's hard sorting through them to find the right one for you - so I thought I'd share the benefit of my few years in the biz just in case anyone else was considering it.

My MAC lipstick collection

A MAC lipstick is an essential addition to any makeup lovers collection. Perhaps the single most hyped product, they have a shade for every person and every mood. For me the formula is consistently excellent, the packaging is sleek so in a short time I've amassed a collection I'm proud of.

A missed birthday, a refresh and GIVEAWAY | Welcome Back

beauty, blog, competition, giveaway, lifestyle, makeup, new, relaunch, something like nicola,

Hello my lovely readers (and happy easter). I don't know whether anyone noticed but for the last few months my blogging mojo was completely lost. I've been going through some things at home and it kind of had to take a back seat. I missed my blogs 1st birthday and didn't post at all in March.... But now I'm ready to be back with a bang (aka a new layout) to give blogging some extra love.

My Oscar favourites & fails 2015

favourites, fails, best, worst, dressed, outfits, style, the oscars, 2015,

When it comes to movies, I'm the first to admit I have quite low brow taste - which means when it comes to Oscar nominees I have little interest. The red carpet before hand is a completely different matter. The Oscars tend to attract more traditional gowns, in rich fabrics with interesting embellishments and I love to see which A listers got it right - and which ones missed the mark.

Comb the app - a new fashion must have?

comb, fashion, app, review, technology, lifestyle

Before I begin I'd like to say I'm really not into gimmicky apps. I prefer to allocate the storage on my iPhone to endless selfies and photos of my Starbucks. That being said, when the people from Comb got in touch and asked if I'd like to review their app, I was very interested. Have you ever been doing the lunchtime trawl of the news and seen Ariana/Taylor/Cheryl in something and been desperate to steal their style? Well now there's an app for that.

Illamasqua eye, lip & face review | Introduction to a brand

. glamore, collection, cream, embellish, eye, eyeshadow, first impressions, highlighter, illamasqua, lip. face. gleam, lipstick, nudes, once, review, rose gold, starkers,

I know that it doesn't score me great blogger points but I actually hadn't heard of Illamasqua until sometime last year when researching killer matte lipstick formulas. After wandering into their boutique store in London, I knew that I'd have to pick some up the first chance I got - which happened to be my Debenhams haul. I decided to try an eye. lip and a face product I'd heard a bit about and figure out if I thought it was worth investing further.

Kiko colour spheres review | Introduction to a brand

Kiko, colour sphere, eyeshadow, review, shade 30, gold, shade 31, dark dove gray, swatches

Last time I was home in Cambridge I noticed that a new makeup shop had appeared in the Grand Arcade shopping centre - something I'd seen mentioned by a couple of bloggers but nothing major. Being the impulsive beauty shopper I am I popped in to pick up a couple of bits to show you.

The stores are very clean with everything easily laid out and easy to pick up (unlike some - MAC - I'm looking at you) with a great range of products from lipsticks to skincare so it was hard to choose where to start. In the end I headed towards the eye shadows because they had some really interesting shades I hadn't seen in other ranges. I did my usual magpie trick and gravitated to two shimmer shades in their colour sphere's - 30 & 31.

Bumble and Bumble - 'Make It Big' Thickening Trio Gift Set | Hair

bumble and bumble, b&B, thickening, shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, make it big, gift set, present, hair, haircare luxury,

I've been wanting to get me some Bumble and Bumble for the longest time but was struggling to justify the cost, cue one extremely thoughtful Secret Santa gift from your bestie. I honestly don't think there could have been a more perfect introduction to the brand for me given my continuing search for that voluminous mane, so I was really pleased to unwrap this set of B&B's Thickening shampoo, conditioner and spray.

Debenhams winning haul

debenhams, haul, winning, beauty, buys. benefit, mac, urban decay, vouchers, lipsticks, blush, bronzer, highlighter

As longer time readers of my blog might recall, I was lucky enough to win Debenhams Autumn Winter style challenge with this post, which came with a cool £500 in vouchers to spend. I've never been let loose with that much at once so needless  to say I got a bit excited and I wanted to show you what I bought with my winnings.

Which Rimmel foundation is best ?

Rimmel, foundation, wake me up, lasting finish, 25 hour, soft beige, ivory, drugstore

It seems to be agreement across the board that Rimmel make the best drugstore foundations so I decided to try a couple of the most hyped ones out. I went for Wake Me Up and Lasting Finish. Lasting Finish is described as long lasting full coverage whilst Wake Me Up claims to instantly awaken with a natural finish. I considered maybe also picking up Match Perfection but I thought I'd see how I got on with these first.

Hello my lovelies! After feeling a little burnt out towards the end of last year I decided to take a little blog break through December to concentrate on work and getting things straight for Christmas. I've missed blogging so much and am now back and refreshed for 2015. As a nice start I thought I'd run you through my ultimate beauty faves from the year gone.
