I know that it doesn't score me great blogger points but I actually hadn't heard of Illamasqua until sometime last year when researching killer matte lipstick formulas. After wandering into their boutique store in London, I knew that I'd have to pick some up the first chance I got - which happened to be my Debenhams haul. I decided to try an eye. lip and a face product I'd heard a bit about and figure out if I thought it was worth investing further.

The first product I knew I had to try was one of their Glamore Nude lipsticks, a beautiful collection of matte shades-  I went for Starkers. I thought it was going to be more rosy, but it was more cool brown toned but perfect for that 90s look. On the lip it is actually similar to MAC's cult Velvet Teddy but easier to work with, a much creamier, less drying formula and controversially I prefer Illamasqua packaging - it's so sleek and elegant. Having said this I wish I'd gone for Rosepout because I quite like to collect shades I don't already have.

The eye product I went for I'm sure you could take one look at and tell me why... The beautiful rose gold packaging caught my eye when it was launched around the bloggers early 2014 - I went for the gorgeous brown shade Embellish. It's not actually as glittery as I remembered swatching in store but that just makes it more wearable. The cream texture makes it the most blendable shadow I've ever tried and it's great because you can build up the look as dramatic as you like. This is definitely my favourite of the three and hasn't been off my eyes over the party season.

The last product I picked up was probably the more disappointing of the three- their highlighter in the shade 'Gleam'. As you can see by the swatch it's very subtle and I felt like I needed a lot of product and the right light to even get it to show. It just doesn't pop enough for me but it might suit you if you like something more subtle or perhaps if you have a darker skintone than mine. It does that cream to powder thing perfectly (Illamasqua seem to have that down) but for me it just doesn't do enough.

So there we have it my first impressions of Illamasqua. Over all I think it's such a sleek brand with some great interesting products that are definitely worth the money on the whole. Particularly the formulas are very special, but the pigmentation could use some work in places. I think next on my list to try is their Skin Base foundation and their Hydra Veil primer.

Have you tried any Illamasqua products? What would you recommend?
